Dr. Ferda Canbaz has secured a Life Sciences funding of 1.14 million CHF from Innosuisse for a period of three years. The project's ambitious goal is to pioneer the creation of the world's inaugural robotically-controlled handheld LASER-blade designed for joint replacement surgery. This groundbreaking device utilizes fiber lasers and piezoelectric actuation to generate a vibrating "overlapping" line beam, significantly enhancing cutting efficiency compared to traditional single-beam spot approaches.

Work starts in April 2024 at the Center for Intelligent Optics of the MIRACLE II Project.
In a recent interview, Canbaz provides insight into her research and future perspectives of lasers in surgery. Check it out!
